It was intimidating enough buying a horse from Will Coleman. Olympian; super model; most fabulous girlfriend (now wife); wonderful show barn in Aiken. It was intimidating enough. But then when we actually bought the critter and learned he was eating Cavalor, we had no idea what to do; nobody close to us sold Cavalor. We spent the first four months of owning our new, fancy, event horse running hither-and-yon in search of Cavalor Perfomix. Except by then we were already hooked on Cavalor, and we needed a regular fix of Cavalor Pianissimo and Cavalor Calm too, for a different horse. Then we couldn’t live without Cavalor Mash & Mix, and, OMG then we discovered Cavalor FiberForce!!!!
We had looked into Cavalor years before and we knew it was more than just a feed, that it was a game-changer. And now we found ourselves on the horns of a dilemma – addicted to Cavalor and no dealer to be found. Sooooo…. We opened a storefront location. Voila!
Of course it wasn’t quite that easy – both Katherine and I have extensive retail experience, but at that time, we didn’t have a store of any kind, much less a feed store. And our feed store experiences have been pretty bad, by the way. Lousy set ups, poor display, poor feed storage facilities and sales people with NO knowledge of any of the feeds or products they sell.
We saw Cavalor as a boutique product that we were willing to go way out of the way to get, even though it wasn’t broadly available. We also envisioned a specialization in just this feed, given our capacity and resources. What we learned is that we see Cavalor as a service rather than a product. I mean, it IS a product, but the benefits, the relationship, the environment, the champions, the sponsored riders; it’s a family of people evangelical about Cavalor. And in our minds we think of providing Cavalor feed and supplements as a service. It’s high tech, and takes a lot of effort, personal attention and follow ups. But it’s worth it! We wrap the brand around us and see it as a lifestyle choice.
Although it was intimidating getting that first horse from Will Coleman, he gave us a chance to not only own the perfect horse for us, but he opened a new door for us with the Cavalor lifestyle – and we live it every day! Thank you Cavalor!
